Firecracker Noisemaker / Party Favor

This cute craft is sure to be a hit with children and adults. This firecracker doubles as both a fun craft for children to make and a festive noisemaker to shake, shake, shake at the patriotic parades this summer or during one of the many fireworks presentations. Fun for all ages, this craft can be made ahead of time as a party favor, stuffed with toys, rather than beans, to entertain little ones. Untie the ribbons, twist off the ends, and the firecracker instantly becomes several fun toys! Your children will not want to miss out on this craft during the next big summer picnic.

What you'll need:

  • 1 sheet of red, white, or blue tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Red, white or blue ribbon
  • 1 toilet paper roll or 1 halved paper towel roll
  • Masking tape
  • Scotch tape
  • Patriotic stickers or decorations
  • Crayons
  • Dried beans or small unbreakable trinkets
How to make your Firecracker Noisemaker:
  • Take the toilet paper roll and tape one end with masking tape so that there are no empty spaces. (see photo).
  • Fill the toilet paper roll with dried beans or trinkets. Secure the open end of the toilet paper roll with masking tape so that there are no holes. (see photo)
  • Take the tissue paper and fold in half. Place the toilet paper in the center, on the bottom edge of the tissue paper. Using the scotch tape, attach the bottom edge of the tissue paper to the toilet paper. (see photo)
  • Begin to roll the toilet paper roll in the tissue paper until there is no tissue paper left. Secure the tissue paper with another piece of scotch tape.
  • Cut small pieces of ribbon and tie a ribbon to both ends of the tissue paper, forming a tootsie roll shaped package. (see photo)
  • Allow children to decorate the outside tissue paper with crayons and stickers. (see photo for example)
  • Your craft is no complete. Be sure to shake it to some festive tunes or check out the special surprises inside.
